sounds interesting indeed! but i think u2 dont do much with it, i dont like to see edge play evrything live from a board
just real instruments for this band i think(hope)
just wanna see edge play the mandolin (like for vertigo) live

but maybe in the studio they can something worked out with this machine

bono mentioned trance (!!!)as he described the forthcoming album im so curious what he means and how its sounds....i heard something on you tue from the movie of daniel lanios but its sounds to early in proces for me.
can wait for oktober

There was an interview made by U2Valencia Radio to Lanois, he said that the new album will be partially handmade and partially electronicly made!!!
so we're up for a nice fusion I think!!
cheers!!
and I can't wait either!!!

I guess it depends on the understanding of the words "handmade" and "electronic".

The Continuum Fingerboard is an instrument to play with your hands. But it's an electronic instrument. So is a guitar amplifier. So are Edge's effect gizmos, even he plays guitar with his hands. A rhythm loop on the other hand most likely wouldn't be played manually but programmed.

Ever since Achtung Baby U2 have been including a lot of programming, looping and sampling on their recordings. More upfront on AB, Zooropa, Passengers and Pop, less prominently on ATYCLB and HTDAAB. And they always have managed to perform this stuff live somehow. Even if not every single sound the listeners heard was really performed live - they've been using a lot of loops and samples. But they did it in an intelligent and creative way, so no offense intended.

I don't believe they intend to use the Continuum Fingerboard live on tour. If they do they will most likely need a top class keyboarder; I doubt Edge can handle that. Sorry folks. Did I hear someone say Eno?

The continuum is not that hard to play. And I think that the distinction thay make is about electric instruments, like hte guitar and effects, even when effects are electronic, and synthesizers and drums loops, which are all electronic.

Have you been playing one? What do you think of it? I'm a guitar player, I hear of this thing for the first time.

I have never played it myself, but I play the keys, and it looks to be almost the same. I saw Dream Theater live a couple of years a go and they use it look(the video is long but the continuum is right at the beginning):

This is one of the sounds of the album. It must be. I looked up continuum keyboard on YouTube. The person was Jordan Rudess or something. Compare that with the No Line On the Horizon demo we've all heard toward the end. Plus this song just fits with that instrument. This could be that new sound. So this means one thing now. I've gotta buy the Indiana Jones soundtrack to "furthur" my research (some of you might find a few puns in here).

One word:
phenomenal

If Edge sounds like that on the new album...

Judging by Mr. Lanois' experience in playing pedal steel guitar (Please login or register to view this link ), I think he could be interested in bringing the continuum to U2's studio.
